♥ Billie - 'Rose' ♥

2 coats Billie White and 3 coats of Billie Rose - no Top Coat

Wow this is bright - The sunshine picture of this is something else! Taking photos of bright neon's and fluorescent polish's is next to impossible, they really do look their best in the shade anyway, so thats how I will photograph them from now on.

I started with 2 coats of Billie French White, then a coat of Nailene Acrylic Strong Top Coat and made sure it was dry. I then applied 3 thin coats of Billie Rose, which thankfully dried extremely fast. I kinda like the weird finish these Billie fluorescent polish's have when they dry; but this wont last long, hence the no top coat, I had some things to paint and fix-up so I just enjoyed this burst of colour for the afternoon only!

HERE is the Page with all my Billie polish's along with some info on where to buy these in Canada ( lucky Ontario Girls) and HERE is the last time I wore this polish = Its so nice to see how well my photography skillz have grown since I started blogging♥

♥ Claires Dream Catcher & Nailene 'Skinny' French tip pen ♥

Claire's Dream Catcher 3 coats & Nailene T.C with Nailene white french Tip Pen

It was really hard for me to get a great photo of the beautiful light green micro-shimmer in this polish. This is a really pretty polish color that came out around New Years (I think). It required 3 coats and the next time I wear it I will definitely layer it over another color.

For this mani, I applied 2 coats of 'Dream Catcher' and 1 coat of Nailene Acrylic Strong Top Coat. I wore this plain for the day, then decided to dress it up with a white french tip pen. I applied the very curved nail stickers to the corner of my nails, and added 2 'coats' of the white french tip pen, on some nails I used 3 'coats' becuase I dropped my camera string onto my still wet nails (Dang!)

When the white was dry, i carefully removed the stickers and applied T.C. over the white area, extending a mm or two past the white tip area and applied T.C. tot he edge of my nails as well & let that dry, when everything is fully dry I applied a coat of T.C. over my entire nail.

♥ Funky French blue/white ♥

This funky french was done with a base a lovely pale blue I made using Wet n' Wild 'Sapphire' and a pure white polish.  The tips are Nailene Skinny French Tip Pen in White, and I applied a line of blue glitter to my ring fingers, Pure Ice 'Strapless' and added cute butterfly nail stickers as well.

I usually would apply a final coat of Top Coat to this type of mani, I had hoped to get picks outside but that never happened, hence the sorta bumpy-ness of my blue base color.

I have listed the instructions with photos below - but I want to mention that now I will always apply a coat of Nailene Acrylic Strong Top Coat  to the white tip area of my nails when using the Nailene French Tip Pen. I find that even though I don't get alot of 'bleeding' when use the french tip guides or other nail sticker guides, this helps to ensure I keep a crisp line, disguised any ridges and that the -water based- product will be sealed in forever, like those 2 dudes and the girl from superman 2.

So far this 'technique' is working out perfectly! I plan on doing pastel Funky French's for the rest of the week. It is just starting to feel like spring here..... and after all those green frankens ( which I will post shortly ) I am ready for some peppy lite colors for my nails♥

- products used -

Here is two coats of one of my Frankens I made with Wet n' Wild Sapphire and a bright pure white. The surface of my false nails are not in great shape. The polish remover I am using is marring the surface a little........
After letting my polish dry I apply 1 coat of Nailene Acrylic Strong Top Coat and let that dry. Before I add any nail stickers or french tip guides, I always wear the base polish i use for a little while. I have found that applying top coat to thoroughly dry my base polish helps in getting a crisp line while using french tip guides or the other sticker guides I  use.
I applied 2 'coats' of the nailene french tip pen with the skinny tip and let them dry between coats.. After removing the french tip guides, there is a slight ridge & so I applied Top Coat to the tips of my nails, over the ridge and a few mm past it onto the base color. this way I do not have any distinctive ridges when I apply my final top coat.
It was really hard to get a photo of the top coat area! But here you can see the where I have extended the top coat over the line.
I applied nail stickers and a line of pure Ice Strapless ( best blue glitter ever! ) and when that was all dry I would apply a final coat of Nailene Top Coat to my entire nail.

Nail Polish Challenge... yes I am still working on this.

= Frankens =

So - since I have run out of 'space' to post photos without paying for it, for now I think I should clear out my "to post" posts. I seriously have 14 posts - waiting to be posted that have just been sitting around for like 3 months....

WOW - This Billie 'French White' did something totally un-expected when I mixed it with Wet 'n' Wild Blue Sapphire' = It hid all the shimmer from 'Blue Sapphire'! I could only spot it very faintly in the bottle and in strong sunshine on my nails. So this was a pleasant surprise, I was not expecting lite blue cremes, I was hoping for shimmery lite blues. I'm not complaining = these turned out lovely♥

I also tried to franken a jelly or a more sheer version of  Wet n' Wild 'Blue Sapphire'  by mixing half 'Blue Sapphire & half clear nail polish, but it is still way, waaaay too opaque. I am starting to appreciate sheer & jelly-ish finishes more, and need something to compliment all my glitter creations I come up with. I am going to mess around with this sheer version of 'Blue Sapphire' I need another bottle of this though, I am in love with this color!

* Wet n' Wild Franken polish are turning out to be awesome! plus there $.99 cents in the USA & $1.59 in Canada! Has any Canadians come across the new Wn'W polish's yet? =  = off to MUA for answers.....
Here is the links to the other 4 posts in my "Deez Nailz Nail Polish Challenge" where i am trying to come up with as any looks as I can with just 2 colors of polish's and regular everyday items from around the house, like mailing labels, sponges for sponging, can opener, cement mixer, light-bulbs and glitter.

♥ NP Challenge #4 ♥

I am doing a little 'nail polish challenge' just for fun,  to see how many looks I can come up with using only 2 nail polish colors, along with base coat & top coat. I plan on doing some easy nail art, and polish techniques which are simple and require very little 'tools', like french tip guides, mailing labels, sponging etc....

The colors I am using are Billie 'French White' & Wet n' Wild 'Sapphire Blue', along with a clear nail polish & Nailene Acrylic Strong Top Coat.

I think for dots, like on my ring finger you really do need a dotting tool. While I  haven't had a desire to have dots on my nails, I thought I should give it a try. My thumb has soooo many bubbles! The polish was drying too fast while I was working with it, and so I had to keep adding clear nail polish to keep the polish's blend able. I did manage to create a milky smoke look on my ring finger, it's still a little to opaque, but it does look like wafting smoke.

I am not as happy with this nail art- I usually have a hard time with nail art on my dominant hand. But, practice makes perfect. These are concept nails, so I did not put alot of love into cleaning up, excess polish around my cuticles etc.

 THUMB

 - This was supposed to be a 'day-to-night' look, but I started off with 2 coats of Billie 'French White' instead of applying two thick coats of polish to each side of my nail. That's why I think it turned out so.... so..... bubbly. Next time I will not use a base color, as I am pretty sure that is why this turned out like this.

RING
- 2 coats of  'Sapphire Blue', let dry
- apply a thick coat of clear polish , then immediately add dots to nail, followed my another dot to the inside
- using a slow drying clear polish would probably be best for this. Plus my dots are too big.

 MIDDLE
- 2 coats of White Polish - let dry
- apply a cat fo clear polish
- Immediately apply random dots of blue polish and swirl with a toothpick

- I didn't want the colors to blend too much, so I made sure to not do too much mixing of the colors. This dried way, way too fast- so there are a few areas which were not swirled as much as they could be.

 RING
- 2 coats of Blue
- A thick coat of clear polish
- apply small dots of white polish randomly over nail
- immediately swirl with a non-sharp object to avoid picking up too much of the 1st layer of color.

I ended up using an old brush to 'smoosh' the white & clear polish over the blue base. There is a few areas that I should have gone over and fixed up. I wanted to have a better fade of the white towards the tip of my nail - but this is only my first try - so I have some practicing to do. I am very happy with this and will likely try this again with other colors ( flames & more smoke like colors).

PINKY
- White polish swiped across tip of nail on the diagonal
- blue polish to fill in remaining area on the nail bed nail be
- Using a tooth pick, I dragged and pulled the colors into each other

Again, the polish dried too fast, and so I had a lot of 'polish strings' and gloppy-ness.... It's so wrong for me to write "My polish dried too fast". But in this instance, for these types of nail art, I will try to use slower drying polish. I had hoped that the diagonal would be more evident, too.

♥ NP Challenge #3 ♥

I am doing a little 'nail polish challenge' to see how many looks I can come up with using only 2 nail polish colors, along with base coat & top coat. I plan on doing some easy nail art, and polish techniques which are simple and require very little 'tools, like french tip guides, mailing labels, sponging etc.... Just for fun....
The colors I am using are Billie 'French White' & Wet n' Wild 'Sapphire Blue', along with a clear nail polish & Nailene Acrylic Strong Top Coat.

Most of these ideas came form MayParis youtube & Blog page. She has tonnes of great videos and she explains things thoroughly. I still need alot of practice - but these turned out better than I imagined they would. I saw these nail art videos months ago, but never got into the spirit of trying to replicate them. MayParis has done an amazing job on all her videos as well as her blog.

My biggest problem with all five of these designs, is that my polish dried way, way to fast! Before I added the color I added a thick coat of clear Sally Hansen polish's - thinking that it would delay the polish from drying too fast and make the polish a little more workable..... There is still some 'lumpy' areas on my nails, but these are concept nails and so I will be taking this off shortly.

So in the future I will do these things for sure;

- use slower drying polish ( the Billie polish I used is a bargain polish that dries super fast)
- use less polish for the 'smoke' effect and more clear polish
- Maybe apply a good thick top coat, and letting it dry before trying any of these 'toothpick swirl effects'

Smoke look I was trying to copy...swiped this photo from the website Worth 1000....

I have written how created these designs above the photos of the individual nails below. These were all super easy, and I will likely do these again in the future sometime. All my photos are indoors with fluroescent lighting. I have changed my backdrop to white, I think it makes my hands look less like the undead, and brightens up the polish as well as the bottles.

THUMB - Swirly Smoke effect French Tip
INDEX - Swirly Smoke effect French Tip
MIDDLE -  Full Nail Marble ----- Tutorial HERE
RING - Day To Night Mani  -----  Tutorial HERE
PINKY -  Vintage French ---------Tutorial HERE  =   Blog post HERE

I am looking forward to perfecting this 'smoke' technique, I think this will look really cool with a Grey polish, and then a sheer milky white for the 'smoke' effect. I think that a 'flames' look, with orange, yellow, and red will also look really cool and is on my list to try ( like 1 million other things ).

THUMB

- 2 coats of Billie French White
- 1 thick coat of Clear Nail Polish
-  apply 4 medium sized dots of blue polish and gently swirl with a toothpick, picking up just a little of the white, but being careful not to scratch up the white polish underneath too much.

I had hoped to have a more sheer blue, but this Wn'W polish ' Blue Sapphire' is very pigmented, so next time I try this, I will use alot more clear polish and just a few very, very small dots of the blue. I think this is a nice twist on the traditional french mani - but i need to figure out how to do this with less polish to prevent bubbles..

INDEX -

- 2 coats of Wet n' Wild Sapphire Blue ( let dry )
- apply clear polish 3/4 of nail, starting from tip
- apply a few dots of white polish to 'french tip area, and gently swirl white polish with a toothpick.
- I used too much white as I was hoping to have a more sheer 'smoke-like' effect, but it's still pretty♥

 MIDDLE

- Apply a clear polish to entire nail immediately followed by dots of color polish
- Swirl polish's around and into each other with  a toothpick.
- Let dry and apply Top Coat

 ~ Wow ~

 Day to Night Mani

- Apply 1 thick coat  of different colors polish to each side of nail
- Immediately drag a toothpick horizontally in both directions across nail
- Apply Top Coat

PINKY -

- Apply a thick coat of polish to 3/4 of nail, immediately followed by a thick coat of polish in contrasting color to nail tip area, 'sorta' overlapping the colors
- Using a toothpick, immediately swirl the polish's together, I did a circular swirl and some dragging to get the colors to blend.
