Beauty Tips from the Beautiful

InStyle spoke to the stars for their all time beauty secrets. Nothing mind blowing but worth a read nonetheless!

"To make lips look naturally pink, I put on red lipstick, wipe it off, and then apply clear gloss." - Halle Berry

"I love the look of buffed nails. They look neat and chic without actually having to paint your nails—and it takes no time!" - Joy Bryant

"A woman is most beautiful when she smiles. Other than that, the most valuable tip I've learned is always use a skin moisturizer!" - Beyonce

"Don't go a full day or night without washing your face. You have to get all the dirt and makeup out of your pores." - Mary J. Blige

"Once I started drinking more water, my skin, hair and nails all flourished." - America Ferrera

"Every woman—even women of colour—should wear a blush bronzer. Not a self-tanner bronzer!" - Iman

"I'm a really smiley person, so I've just learned when I'm doing my own makeup, I have to make sure it's smile ready and not too heavy. As amazing as the Victoria Beckham pout is for photos, I just can't do it!" - Rosario Dawson

Fashion at the Met Costume Institute Gala

Stars of film, fashion, television and music were at The Metropolitan Museum of Art for the Costume Institute Gala last night which honoured the late, great, Alexander McQueen.

Naomi Campbell (who's made it onto a few worst dressed lists) said of him: ‘He was a very sensitive, very instinctive and intuitive person - private and a very affectionate and lovely man. He was a monstrous talent.’

Naomi in Alexander McQueen

Celebrity attendees included SJP, Gisele, Rihanna, Jessica Alba and Beyonce and Jay-Z who were booed by photographers for failing to stop for extra pictures!

We’re more interested in who did stop!

Jennifer Lopez in Gucci. The colour looks gorgeous on her. The shoulders take the floral trend to a new level!

Rihanna in Stella McCartney. As usual she shows a lot without showing a lot. Not sure about The Little Mermaid inspired hair.

Beyonce is curvy perfection in Emilio Pucci. It looks really tight - how did she walk? Or breathe? The things we do for fashion! Feeling Jay's lo 'fro.

Tamara Mellon, Thandie Newton (who never looks bad) in Stella McCartney with Freida Pinto in Chanel.

Kerry Washington in Escada. Gorgeous dress and we love the 80's inspired hair.

Solange in Dries Van Noten. Umm...we like her hair. That's it.

A very serious Ciara in Prabal Gurung. Beautiful, beautiful dress.

Alicia Keys in Givenchy. Too much brown drowns her and the jacket brings the dress down.

Eva Mendes smoulders in Stella McCartney. This lady certainly knows how to work a red carpet.

Rashida Jones underwhelms in Stella McCartney. It's not a bad dress, it just doesn't have much wow for an occasion as wow worthy as this.

Zoe Saldana in Calvin Klein. Simple and elegant and love the easy waves in her hair.

Janelle Monae in The House of Chanel. We're getting a bit bored of this look now.

Iman in Stella McCartney. She looks stunning but we don't recommend matching your outfit with your hair.

Jennifer Hudson in Vera Wang with Vera Wang. It's a little bridesmaid'y.

John Legend and Christine Teigen. A little too 'showgirl' for us but fitting for an event like this we suppose.

Nicole Ritchie in Jason Wu. Very 'old Hollywood'.

Joan Smalls in Tom Ford looks supermodel perfect.

Serena Williams in Oscar de la Renta. Could have worked sans the hat.

Life After The Catwalk

Modelling is a funny old business. We can’t think of many other careers where you peak as a teenager and retire in your mid 30’s. That said, according to TV documentary The Model Agency (Channel 4, 10pm), the girls can make between £5 and £15,000 a day. Yes – a day! The window of opportunity is relatively small but the girls stand to make a small fortune.

But what do you do when you hit the ripe old age of 35 and the newest 17 year old has stolen your crown? In a word – diversify.

Take a leaf from these ladies books who, according to Forbes magazine, were among the highest paid models in the world.

Tyra Banks

A former Victoria's Secret Angel, Tyra rakes in around £19 million a year thanks to her television endeavours. Her company, Bankable Productions, produces True Beauty (with Ashton Kutcher), Stylista, The Tyra Show as well as the worldwide franchised Next Top Model, which she hosts in America (which in our opinion is the original and best).

Iman

Wife of David Bowie, Iman is famous for her revolutionary line of cosmetics for women of colour as well as for being a model. The 55 year old Somalian (who doesn’t look a day over 35) also has a home decor line, her Global Chic clothing and accessories collection and hosts The Fashion Show on US channel Bravo.

Gisele Bündchen

Gisele was the highest paid model in the world for 2010, taking home almost £16 million. Another former Victoria's Secret Angel, Gisele lent her name to Brazilian flip flops Ipanema and earned herself over £5 million from the 30 million pairs sold in 2009.

She also launched environmentally friendly skincare line Sejaa in 2010 and owns the Palladium Executive Hotel in Brazil.

Despite giving birth in December 2009, just six weeks later she was on the cover of US Vogue and managed to keep her top spot on the list from last year with exactly the same earnings.

Our Favourite Looks from NY Fashion Week

Fashion is a curious beast. We’re yet to put away our scarves and gloves from Winter 2010/11 and already the fashion industry is looking forward to next Winter. Feels like we’re still in the middle of this one in the UK!

London Fashion Week is in full swing, but for now, we look back at the wonders some of the less famous shows in New York had to offer.
