Resort 2012 Collections

What with Spring/Summer fashion weeks and Autumn/Winter fashion weeks, you may be surprised to know there are also Resort, Couture (which we don’t know how anyone affords) and Pre-Fall collections. Why?

They bring in publicity which every fashion house needs and more importantly, they bring in money. Resort collections are in shops the longest and are often based on buyer’s feedback – what sold, what customers said – and as they are slightly less fashion focused, they can be worn at any time of year by layering up or down.

We think of them as a barometer of what people really wear as opposed to what designers try and tell us we should be wearing.

Here we pick what we think was some of the best of what was shown at Resort 2012 last month. We chose them not only because the clothes were beautiful but because everything about the models would have been carefully screened and chosen. For hair, makeup and outfit inspiration that works with a brown skin, look no further:

Love the print. If you’re handy with a sewing machine, or have an auntie who is, get hold of some of this fabric and this might be a look you can do yourself.

Alexander Wang
Simplicity at its best.

Givenchy
More vibrant print.

Calvin Klein
As clean and fluid as ever.

Sophie Theallet
Very French, very chic.

Mara Hoffman Swimwear

African and Aztec style print will be all over our wardrobes in 2012 – even quintessential British brand Burberry used it in their Resort 2012 Collection.

The trend even goes onto swimwear. Designer Mara Hoffman used them to great effect at the Miami Swimwear Show last week. Celebrity fans of hers include Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna and Halle Berry.

Her swimwear line isn’t cheap but it’s sure to be beautifully made and good for holding in the lumps and bumps. Plus it’s great if you like to stand out on the beach.

Wasn't she in ANTM?

What are your favourite items from her latest swimwear line?
