For friday night 2:30 a.m.

3 coats of Sally Hansen Salon Hyacinth, a sponging of Confetti My Favorite Martian, and a coat of Sinful Colors Call You Later.

Here is a mani I wore a few days ago - I contemplated even posting this because of all the thousands of polish's colours I have seen this is the ugliest I have ever come across. I picked this up at the dollar store in my town, just for lulz, as  I am not a fan of this line of Sally Hansen polish's. A real Hyacinth is not this colour so I don't know why they would name it this.

I didnt want it too glittery, so only used 1 coat of the Sinful Colors polish. This was literally a last minute addition ~ I couldn't go out in public wearing just the Sally Hansen Hyacinth polish alone..... what would people think of me? and I didn't want to take it off and do my nails again!

Also the brush on this is 'wimpy', it was smaller and thinner than other polish's. I have tried these SH Salon polish's a few years ago and thought the formula and brush was 'meh'. This line is being dis-continued and these polish's can be found on clearance now; many are plain ordinary colours, pinks reds and Nudes but some shades are very pretty. This polish, Hyacinth was from the spring 2009 Tracey Reese LE collection.

I had to sponge on another colour, because Hyacinth alone with Sinful Colors Call You Later would not be enough to disguise the fuglyness of this shade of polish. Confetti My Favorite Martian is a lovely green glass flecked polish.

.....and here it is alone

Above and below, 3 coats of Sally Hansen Salon Hyacinth.

This is a mani I hoped would work out. The Sally Hansen polish does not look that bad with these two fabulous colours, Billie Pink Pansy and a franken I made earlier this month. I cut out a mailing label in the shape of a 'V' and stuck it on my nail, added the two polish's and a thick coat of TC.

This Billie Cosmetic's polish really is that bright. I saw a look like this a few days ago and it was very pretty & tried to copy it. I will have to try again with better colours and possible skip using any type of nail guide or scotch tape.

Guest Post - Thoughts on travel for Divergent Musings

Yesterday I wrote a guest post for Kate of Divergent Musings. I could say so many great things about Kate, but I'll limited myself to the following: She's an excellent writer, a dedicated blogger, and one of the sweetest people I know. Oh - and a snazzy dresser to boot. (Yes, I just said snazzy. Apparently I'm eighty.) Jump on over to her blog and read my thoughts regarding travel, and what not to pack for a trip!

Fashion Beauty Friend Friday: Fitness

This week, Fashion Beauty Friend Friday is focused on fitness. As someone with little to no coordination and almost zero athletic ability, I've always been curious about those women who are able to tolerate getting sweaty without having a full-scale nervous breakdown (such as I am accustomed to.) I'm intrigued by these women, these warriors of the gym and running paths, who seem to glide by almost effortlessly in a blissful state of endorphin rush. I'm a little excited to read the other responses to this week's questions.

The Friend Friday group by Modly Chic is a way for fashion bloggers to share more about themselves and join a friendly community of bloggers.  Join the fun by checking out the  Fashion Beauty Friend Friday Google Group. And don't forget to check out Modly Chic - it's such a great blog.

1. Do you keep some kind of fitness routine? Why?

I am the very last person you would consider athletic. Coordination is not my strong suit. Occasionally I fall over when tying my shoes. And I feel awkward and self-conscious at the gym. In the past, I've tried to work around these weaknesses by avoiding team sports. In college I was an equestrian, which provided a surprising good workout. I was also involved on the crew team, filling the role of coxswain in the skull. The cox does absolutely no rowing, exerting themselves by screaming at the team to keep them coordinated. Oh, and the cox steers the boat by pulling gently on a little lever. But I could tell everyone I was on the crew team, and in my head that counted for something.

In the last year, motivated by a desire to become more muscular, I've discovered running.  And I love it. Running makes me feel strong, and powerful, and accomplished. When I run my brain relaxes, and all those little nagging worries are drowned out by the pounding of my feet and rhythm of my breathing. And I've grown to embrace my sweaty body after a run - it's proof that I've conquered a workout. Running is a surprise stress reliever, and that's the biggest reward.

2. Has working out, maybe training for a marathon or something of that nature, helped with your own perception of body image?

When I'm running regularly I definitely feel better about my body. I spent so many years hating how I looked and punishing myself through starvation and purging behaviors. Settling into a workout routine makes me feel more self-confident, and has encouraged me to look at myself in a totally different light. Because of running, I'm a lot stronger than I thought I was. I'm physically capable of more than I dreamed. And it feels really good.

3. When you are hitting the gym or just going out for a long walk, what do you wear? Is it about functionality or fashion?

I suppose I take both into account when choosing my workout wear. I really like Nike's Tempo running shorts, and purchased them in bulk at the Nike Factory Store near my house. They're comfortable, lightweight and don't ride up. I also like Old Navy's long sports tanks with a sports bra underneath. I like to coordinate my tanks with my shorts, but I go so far as wearing makeup or doing my hair before working out. I do have one rule regarding athletic apparel, though: It should remain at the gym. Personally, I would never pull on workout clothes to grab something to eat or run errands.

4. Do you feel there is a cultural perception of what you ‘should’ be doing for your own physical fitness?

I'm not entirely sure. Ever since Jane Fonda made aerobics popular back in the eighties, there's been a certain push for women to work out. I don't see anything wrong with that as long as exercising is something you do for you, rather than to impress your friends or fit in with those around you. In addition, working out should always been done in moderation. It should not dominate your life at the sacrifice of relationships and other activities. And, as with most things, it shouldn't be an obsession. I've met women who worked out excessively and developed serious injuries as a result. Balance is key.

5.  Dream big… what would be your ultimate fitness goal?

My goal is simple: I'd like to follow a regular fitness routine that I enjoy. In the past working out has either been something I dreaded or did to excess. Running regularly, and looking forward to my runs, is a simple goal that makes the most sense to me. Perhaps I'll run a 10k someday, or even a half-marathon. But right now I don't feel the need to do so.

How To Make Extra Cash

I think probably everyone makes lists from time to time of things they want to purchase. Maybe that list is on paper or perhaps it's in your head. I know that I do this and I want to share some of my tips with you for how to make extra money to buy things you want.

Many of you know that I love Ebay for both buying and selling. It's an excellent resource, but it can sometimes be confusing if you don't know what you are doing. Below I will share with you just how I use Ebay and Paypal in order to maximize the cash I receive.

I love to keep my house and my things organized and I find it very essential to go through my closets mutiple times each year and get rid of things. I don't like for things to accumulate or pile up and I don't enjoy having too much of something or for things to be cluttered. So I go through and give a lot of things to Goodwill. Occasionally an item/s will stand out to me that I know I can actually sell to make money. And here is where Ebay comes into the picture.

For me personally, I find that only name brand items are usually worth selling. Items such as shoes, purses, jackets, etc. are all good examples. As long as the item is either brand new or in gently used condition you are good to go.

My Tips For Listing Items On Ebay:
1. Timing is everything - I always list my auctions on either a Wednesday or Thursday. If you choose to do a 3 day auction this will make your auction end on either a Saturday or Sunday. Customers typically remember to check their Ebay auctions and watch lists during the weekend, but may forget during the week.
2. 3 Day Only - From personal experience I find it pointless to use the 1 day and the extended day auction features. I have the best experience using the 3 day auction format.
3. Buy It Now - This type of listing is only beneficial if you are selling something very expensive for way under cost.
4. Be Clear - Make it extremely obvious to your customer what you are selling and all of the details. Remember more is better when describing an item on Ebay. People want as much info as possible about the item, shipping details, etc.
5. Good Communication - Make sure you are constantly checking Ebay and your email if you have an auction/s listed. Customers may ask you questions and it's also good to see how many bidders/watchers you have.
6. Be Honest - Describe the item you are selling in every way possible. People want to know the details. I always find it important to list if the item does or doesn't come from a smoke and pet free home. Many people have allergies to both.
7. Be Punctual - If the customer has done their part and paid in a quick or timely manner do your part and get their package shipped to them just as quick. You will be sure to be a great seller in no time!
8. Feedback - It's very important to give as well as receive feedback. This lets others know that you are a good seller and it also let's you know if you want to purchase an item from a seller if you are the one shopping.
9. Paypal - I personally only take Paypal as payment when selling on Ebay. To me it's the most easy way to get things done and it's the safest too.
10. Hunt For Similar Items - Take a look around on Ebay and see who is selling the exact same item you are selling. See how many bids the item has and what the price is. You can use this as a guide to setting up your auction if you aren't sure what price point would be appropriate or you just don't know where to start.
11. Other Things - Here are a few more details that I add to all my auctions in order to be a successful seller on Ebay: I do not accept returns, all items are sold as is, I take Paypal only, I ship USPS Priority Mail only, I require payment to be made no later than 2 days after auction close, I only ship to US bidders (this will vary depending on where you live obviously), I always leave feedback, I stay in constant communication with my bidders/buyers, I make sure to ship items that are clean and packed neatly and I always think of the customers expectations.

Okay so now lets talk about Paypal. Having an Ebay account goes hand in hand with having a Paypal account. It's really convenient too because once a customer has paid you, you have the option to just shop online using your available Paypal funds OR you can have the money transferred in your bank account which takes a couple of days. Paypal will even mail you a check if you would prefer.

Lots of websites take Paypal now which is really nice. Some examples are Etsy, Ulta, Ebay, and the list goes on. CLICK HERE for a full guide to websites that take Paypal.
I have recently purchased items on thecurrentcustom.com and iviscents.com and both of these sites take Paypal.

I will not provide a full tutorial today on how to use Ebay or Paypal. They are both very easy to use and both have online features to fully guide you through your experience.

So the next time you want some extra cash, consider selling some of your things on Ebay. It's a lot of fun and you will be surprised what others will pay for your stuff. Good luck!

Nail Prisms Franken

My Previous Mani, 2 coats of Sally Hansen Nail Prisms in Pink Diamond, and 2 coats of a franken I made with Pink Diamond. I did not want to remove my previous polish, so I disguised the tip wear from gardening with a diagonal mani. I saw this very same franken on MUA from JiLoverz a few months ago and wanted to copy it. I used a bottle of Sally Hansen Pink Diamond and NYC West Village which is a dark blue.

Also; I don't know why but every time I wear rubber-gloves the skin on my hands starts to flake off a few days after. I am going to Google this and see what comes up. Does this happen to anyone else? I make sure I wash them inside out and dry them before I use them for chores.... so no nail polish remover for me for a day or two till my hands are in better shape.

to make this lovely franken I used sally Hansen Nail Prisms in Rose Diamond and added NYC west Village (a deep dark blue). I was nervous about it and thought I might ruin it, but it turned out just fine.

My feature in this week's IFB Links a la Mode: Week of April 28th

This week Dress With Courage was featured in IFB's Links A La Mode. IFB is a website for style, fashion and beauty bloggers containing articles, forums, polls and promotional tools. Home to thousands of members, it is an incredible resource for those interested in promoting their blogs, networking with fellow bloggers, and improving their posts. For fashion and style bloggers it's like crack. Not that I've tried it, but like I've seen on Intervention. Anyways, I've learned so much about blogging through IFB and made from pretty wonderful friends through the message boards. If you're a blogger interested in gaining followers, traffic, and ideas for future posts, don't hesitate to become an IFB member.

This is my ninth (eek!) feature in Links A La Mode, and I'm particularly proud that my post was chosen.  I am so grateful to be included with such talented, stylish, and informative bloggers. Here's the feature with my link:

More than Meets the Eye

Edited by Fajr Muhammad at Stylish Thought

When you visit a fashion blog you often see a stylish blogger posing in a perfectly, put together outfit with gorgeous scenery. What you don’t see is the work that goes into curating and maintaining a fashion blog. This week the theme across IFB was outfit posts: what deems an outfit worthy, what goes into creating a stunning visual post and ultimately the comments (some not so nice) that we receive as style bloggers. Ultimately, blogging is a way to express our love for fashion and personal style but as this week’s links can attest to, there is much more to fashion blogging than meets the eye.

OPI Glam Slam Collections Review

OPI released a great polish collection pertaining to Serena Williams. Glam Slam in Rally Pretty Pink and Spark de Triomphe are wonderful polishes and shatters. The shatters work wonderfully and create a great graffiti art look to your nails. The polishes formula were really easy to work with. The formula on the shatters were nice as well. Not too thick or thin, the right formula for creating such unique nail looks. I hope to have more swatches of the polishes alone and with the shatters switched around. So here are some photos!

Collections sent to me for review.
