Naomi Campbell Wins British Fashion Award

The British Fashion Awards were held last night at the prestigious Savoy Hotel and Theatre in London. The Awards recognise the most influential people in fashion today and celebrate the reputation and development of British fashion.

Naomi Campbell won the Special Recognition award for her 25 year career in fashion.

She said: ‘Sorry I just got all teary. It's overwhelming to be recognised in your own country, it's a huge privilege and makes me feel very proud to be British. Women of colour are now far better represented, we still have a long way to go, but I'm very proud.’

She couldn’t be more right. Things have certainly improved since she first stepped out in 1985, but with only a handful of non-white models getting the big campaigns and magazine covers let’s see if another black, bi racial or Asian woman wins something similar in 2035.

Other stars included VV Brown in a vintage look lace dress carrying a Loewe clutch. Lace is a big trend for winter and looks good here with a slick of red lippy.

Thandie Newton wore a Peter Pilotto Spring 2011 dress and purple suede shoes by Nicholas Kirkwood. If you want to wear busy prints like Thandie, it’s best to keep make-up simple so you don’t overload the look.
