My Take On Chanel Mimosa

I've been very intrigued by Chanel Mimosa lately. I can't bring myself to pay more than an Essie or OPI polish so no more than $9. However I feel Chanel Mimosa is probably easily copied in other brands. Or at least similar enough to keep me satisfied. I normally really don't like yellow nail polish. But Mimosa is just so pretty to me!

I purchased Revlon Electric because so many people online were claiming that it's pretty much a dead on copy of Mimosa. I have also heard that it's a close copy, but the base of Electric is just one shade brighter than Mimosa.

Electric looks really nice in the bottle. But then when I attempted to apply it, that's when things went South. It is the gloopiest, streakiest formula I think I have ever used. However that is to be expected supposedly with some yellow polishes.

I'm not a big Revlon polish fan - not because I don't care for their colors, but because I don't really own any. I sure hope that their other polishes don't apply as awful as this one. Maybe I got a bad batch/bottle? A nice layer of Seche Vite pretty much salvaged this mani, but I will never use Electric again. Ugh!

Here are my pics of Revlon Electric for you:

The Contenders: My Franken, Revlon Electric, Essence Sundancer:

My 2nd attempt at finding a shade that is somewhat similar to Mimosa is Essence Sundancer. For a 49 cent polish, I'm quite pleased. It is however a tad darker than Mimosa and is lacking the shimmer.

I had a bottle of NYX Carnation on hand and it is a light yellow cream (lighter than Mimosa and still lacking the shimmer).

So I decided to combine both Sundancer and Carnation to get the overall base color. For the shimmer I added OPI She's Golden and OPI Up Front and Personal. I have no exact recipe for this new polish I have created. I just kinda kept mixing til I had what I wanted.

Here are the polishes I used to make my version of Mimosa:

And here are pics of the polish in both sunlight and indoors with flash:

I bought Essence Sundancer at Ulta for 49 cents. You can't beat that. Essence polishes are either 49 or 99 cents depending on the shade.

I feel like Wet N Wild Craze Polish in Art Crime (see the yellow polish in the pic below) might also be a good dupe for Chanel Mimosa. This collection is due out in stores this summer. I'll have to see it in person to be sure. I'm guessing it probably has no shimmer.

I'm happy with my version of Mimosa. I haven't actually seen it in person and am just judging the color by what I have seen online. Anyway, it was fun to make and I am satified!

Here is a pic of my frankened version of Mimosa:

I have to say I am the most happy with my franken. Out of all the shades of yellow, it's my favorite. And the formula wasn't all nasty like Revlon Electric. I think I may add some polish thinner to Electric to see it it can be salvaged. I wasn't able to get the best pic of my franken, but that pic above is really washed out due to the flash.
