Scarves / Stoles / Mufflers for Men

Scarves and stoles are basically fashion mufflers – being one of the most elegant accessories for a man. It brings class and personality even to the most boring outfit! At workplace, party or even an evening out, the right scarf can make an average Joe look twice as hot. It is a perfect accessory for both formal and informal occasions. Not to forget, its a major break from the monotonous shirts, jeans and slacks that has continued for ages. If you haven’t tried one, please do. I can’t emphasize on how much it adds to a man’s personal style. Remember, every man can look good in one.

Scarves generally come in various lengths. But, assure that it is long enough to tie. Typically a scarf should be at least 60 inches long and five inches wide. If it is too short you will not be able to wrap it. It should be long enough so that you can wrap it two or three times and still have the ends reach near the tie-length. Get something that appears a little bulky for a more sophisticated look.

One of the simplest and trendiest ways of wearing it is to fold the long scarf in half and the knot the other through, by pulling it tight. This is one of the most elegant looks. Don’t ask me why, but personally I feel nothing can be more appealing than the way a man ties the knot as it can add to his overall look in the most positive way. It can also be wrapped loosely around the neck a couple of times for a relaxed look or wrapped just once around the neck for a seasoned look.

If you are afraid about wearing colors, it can be a great way to add that extra zing to your outfit. However, a colorful scar can be quite intimidating. Opt for something that has 2 or 3 colors or perhaps a single color with numerous shades. You can mix and match with any type of outfits. Popular colors for men’s scarves would be black, tan, brown, grey and earthy tones! Personally, I feel plaid and striped ones look great on most men.

Avoid teaming solid color scarves to a similar color shirt or sweater, unless and until the colors match perfectly. Nonetheless, a better option would be a plaid scarf that has similar colors to the outfit you are wearing. Make sure that the pattern and style of the outfit compliments the scarf.

Scarves can be in silk, cotton, cashmere, wool and rayon. Men prefer silk scarves the most because of the fabric's soft texture and shimmering look. Silk can be your first choice if you really daring and can carry the look with panache. Cotton and woolen scarves goes well with most men. Cotton scarves are the most popular ones as it can be simply worn with a coat and slacks or t-shirts and jeans. If you enjoy the retro look the woolen ones may play to your advantage. Avoid polyester ones as it gives a cheap look. The key is to try different styles, experiment and find out what suits you the best!

Here are few pictures on various ways a scarf can be tied, teamed and coordinated!
