Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge
I've always been the type to use either a foundation brush or those disposable wedge sponges you buy in a pack to apply my liquid foundation. I've been really intrigued by the Beauty Blender (which retails for $19.95 at Sephora) and the Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge (which retails for $9.99 at Target). So the other day I picked up the Sonia Kashuk sponge from Target and I have really been impressed. Apparently this same sponge (mine is purple like the picture above) used to be available in blue and from the reviews I have read was a better sponge than it's purple twin. I can't comment on that as I only am familiar with the purple model.
I am absolutely loving the airbrushed look this sponge gives my foundation. It's really easy to use too.
Here's how I use this sponge:
1. Get it wet.
2. Squeeze out all water.
3. Squeeze sponge in a clean towel
4. Apply a small amount of foundation to back of your hand.
5. Use wider end of sponge to stipple or bounce the foundation onto face.
6. Use pointy smaller end of sponge for more coverage and for concealer around eyes, nose, etc.
7. Wash sponge daily or every other day to keep it germ free and clean.
8. Store upright on wide end and let dry. It will dry quickly.
So you may be thinking - $10 for a sponge, are you crazy? Well if you think about it this way it may change your mind. First of all if you do use the disposable wedge sponges, not only are you being wasteful and throwing them away everyday, but after you buy several packs of them you could have already paid for one Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge. Or if you happen to use a foundation brush everyday, you already have to wash it out everyday or every other day. A nice foundation brush is going to cost you way more than this sponge or even the Beauty Blender model.
So how do I keep this sponge clean? Use either baby shampoo or brush cleaner to wash your sponge daily. I put some cleaner on mine and kinda work it into the sponge. I then start rinsing it and then squeezing it. Once the water runs clear you are good. Use a clean towel once the water is mostly out of the sponge and squeeze it til it's lightly damp. Store upright on the wider end.
Here's a video showing how to use the Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge:
Do you own either a Sonia Kashuk or Beauty Blender Sponge? If so I would love to here from you!
