The other day while shopping at CVS I was checking out the cosmetics aisle and ran across this brush cleaner from Essence of Beauty. I've always loved that brand (it's CVS's house brand) and their makeup brushes are some of my favorites. I decided to pick up a bottle since it was only $5.99.
First off, here are the ingredients for you:
I want to start out by saying that I have never actually purchased brush cleaner before. I have always wanted to try MAC's, but have never actually purchased it while at the counter. I have always used either baby shampoo or antibacterial soap to clean my brushes. The Essence of Beauty cleaner has a nice lavender scent (lavender oil is in the ingredients) but it's not overwhelming and doesn't hang around once your brushes are dry.
Here's how you use this product:
Spray brush cleaner onto the brush. Gently wipe the brush onto a lint-free cotton cloth to remove residue. Rinse with tepid water until the water runs clear. Squeeze out excess water, reshape brush, and lay flat to dry overnight.
By following the instructions I found everything worked out as it should. I want to point out that I don't know how well this product would be for cleaning liquid makeup on brushes such as a foundation brush. I personally use sponges for my foundation so that is not a problem for me. But this product worked great on my skunk brushes and eye makeup brushes. I also noticed that it left them feeling soft and conditioned once they were dry so that is a big plus in my book. The product is also alcohol free so another plus.
I think that if you are looking for a budget makeup brush cleaner then this is one to definitely check out. It works great and you don't have to use very much so the bottle will last awhile.
